1. When will I receive my license key?

Your license key will be sent to you by e-mail immediately after your purchase is approved. It usually takes less than an hour. A network problem may delay or drop the e-mail. The e-mail may have been misdirected to your Junk mail folder. Please send us a support enquiry or e-mail to if you have not received your license key within an hour of your purchase.

Please note that if you purchase by eCheck, your license key will not be sent until we receive notification that your eCheck has cleared your bank; it can take 7-8 days to clear your bank.


2. Why I did not receive your support e-mail?

Normally we will write you back as soon as we receive your e-mail. If you have not received our reply within 24 hours, please check the spam control of your mail client as well as the firewall and anti-virus software settings of your computer as they may block our e-mails.

4. Can FutureTax transfer tax information from other tax software?

FutureTax cannot transfer tax information from other tax software since there is no protocol for sharing data between them for now. But It can transfer information from previous year FutureTax files.


5. Can I have back up of client returns on a USB flash disk or a disk drive?

Yes, FutureTax saves tax returns into FutureTax file (*.f06, *.f07 etc). You can copy or back up these files on your USB flash drive or disk drive.


6. At times I go to a client and gather data or information on a laptop, can I transfer the same to my desktop and work on the returns?

Yes, you can transfer the FutureTax files (*.f06, *.f07 etc) gathered from your laptop and open them with FutureTax on your desktop.


7. Why am I not able to run FutureTax on Windows 7/Windows 10?

The login user doesn't have Administrator privileges. Right-click on the installation file(.exe), select "Run as Administrator" from the prompt menu and install FutureTax again.


8. Do I need an accountant to file my T2 tax return in FutureTax?

You don't have to. You can do yourself to file your T2 tax return in FutureTax.


9. Do you have a version for taxation year prior to 2009?

No. FutureTax T2 supports the taxation year starting from January 1, 2009.


10. Can I use FutureTax on my laptop and my home computer with one license key?

License key has to be installed on one computer only. You can prepare your tax returns on other unlicensed computers and transfer the tax return files to the licensed computer and file them to CRA.


11. Why does my browser warn me your software can harm my computer while I am to download?

You can ignore it by clicking the button to continue the download.


12. Internet Explorer has just displayed the message after I downloaded FutureTax - "futuretax.exe is not commonly downloaded and could harm your computer". What should I do now?

To continue installing FutureTax, do what follows:
- Click the Actions button in the displayed message;
- In the SmartScreen Filter dialog box, click the down arrow to the left of More options, and click Run anyway.


13. I used Future Tax last year. Unfortunately, I did not print a copy for myself. Do you keep any records from last year?

We don't keep any of your records. All tax returns are stored on your computer. Please remember to save your tax returns when you prepare them in FutureTax.


14. Why I can't make a purchase? I got "We are sorry, we are experiencing temporary difficulties. Please try again later. If this error occurred while making a payment, avoid duplicate payments by checking your Account Overview before resending a payment. Message 3005".

Please clear your browser's cache and cookie files. Or use a different browser - such as Firefox to purchase.


15. How do I delete a tax return?

The path of tax return file is at the top blue caption bar of FutureTax. Locate the file in your Windows Explorer and delete it. Then the file is removed from the Start Screen of FutureTax.


16. Can I upgrade to the current version from previous release version?

The upgrade works for the subversions of one release version. It doesn't update previous release versions. i.e., you can update all changes for FutureTax T2 2012.1. But if you installed version 2011.2, you cannot upgrade to 2012.1. Please download and install version 2012.1. Purchase a new license key if applicable.


17. Can I prepare T2 Short tax return in FutureTax?

No, FutureTax doesn't support T2 Short tax return. However as for electronically filing, there is no different between short and standard forms. You can just claim the same T2 short forms in the software, then the software will build all fields automatically.


18. How do I perform the carry forward of 2019.2 data into version 2021.1?

Carry forward data: Start FutureTax, click the link 'Import/Carry Forward' or click the menu: File > Import/Carry Forward.


19. Will my license be expired? What does the Taxation Period mean?

Your license will be never expired. The Taxation Period means that as long as the corporation year start and end fall within the period, you can use the software with the license in any time.


20. Can I install license key on a different version of FutureTax? Can I transfer unused license number to next version?

No, license key cannot be installed on different versions of FutureTax. Unused license number is not transferable.


21. How to apply half (50%) rule for CCA?

Click the column H beside Column 8 to enable half (50%) rule on Schedule 8. Note that column H is in version 2019.2 or prior; otherwise column 13 will multiple by 0.5 automatically in higher versions.


22. How to ReFile(amend) tax return already submitted?

In version 2014.1 or higher, if you need to ReFile(amend) your tax return (request reassessment) which has been already submitted to CRA, the steps to ReFile the amended tax return are:
1. Make necessary changes to your tax return.
2. Claim line 996 and 997 on Corp Info worksheet.
3. Click Ready to File T2(.COR) button to submit it again. Or print Bar Code or paper tax return and mail it to CRA.

Common error 387: CRA cannot process the return transmitted since we have already assessed this tax year. If you are submitting an amended return you must indicate this in the software (line 996 and 997). Otherwise, contact CRA’s Corporation Internet Filing Helpdesk at 1-800-959-2803 for assistance.


23. Can FutureTax import from other tax software?

FutureTax does not support importing from other tax software. However there are two alternative ways for importing:

  • 1. Export the GIFI data from other tax software if applicable. Then click the menu "Import CSV/GIFI" in FutureTax.
  • 2. Click the menu "Tax Return > Auto-fill", Auto-fill your tax return from CRA My Business Account. Then save the tax return, and import this saved tax return in FutureTax again.


24. Can I get the Web Access Code (WAC) in FutureTax?

If you are using version 2014.1 or higher, Web Access Code (WAC) can be got at the WAC/EFILE information tab in the Options. Click WAC/EFILE Info button at the top tool bar, or the menu: Tax Return > Options, select WAC/EFILE Information tab. Click "Get WAC" button to retrieve the WAC from CRA.

Information needs to be filled: Business Number(line 002 on T2), Taxation Year End Date(line 061 on T2), Incorporation Date(Corp Info Worksheet), Postal Zip Code, First Name, Last Name and Title (on the same screen of WAC).


25. Is FutureTax applicable for Efiling?

Yes. If you are an Efiler (have EFILE number and password from CRA), you can enter your EFILE information: Click Options link in the beginning screen or click the menu: Tax Return > Options, then select WAC/EFILE Information tab.


26. I get the error message when submitting tax return - com.sun.xml.internal.messaging.saaj.SOAPExceptionImpl: Message send failed.

1) Please install Java Runtime Environment 32 bit from https://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp . Click the link "Windows Offline". After the file is downloaded, double click it to Install.
2) If it is still problem, please disable anti-virus program that blocking the submission.


27. When I try to open a tax return, I get this error message: An Unsupported Operation Was Attempted.

Right-click on the FutureTax icon on your desktop and select "Run as Administrator".


28. Why do I keep getting error code 320 when submitting T2 return?

The error means that your EFILE password was not entered correctly. You can modify it by clicking the menu: Tax Return > Options, then select EFile Information tab. Then submit again.


29. How to fix the error: "Member not found" when printing a tax return?

Go to our website to re-download the software and install it.


30. How to get rid of error 322 on retrieving WAC code? Error 322: The Web access code that you have provided does not match the business number and /or the tax year end in CRA's records. For assistance, contact CRA's Corporation Internet Filing Helpdesk at 1-800-959-2803.

Double check the followings:

  • 1. Business number on page 1 of T2
  • 2. Tax year end on page 1 of T2
  • 3. Incorporation date on Corp Info worksheet.
  • 4. Post Code, First name, Last name and Title on the WAC/EFILE Information screen

Clear out the text box of Web Access Code, and then Click Get WAC button on the WAC/EFILE Information screen. You should be able to get the WAC code if all of the information are matched with CRA records. If not, please contact CRA help desk.


31. I entered my return in FutureTax old version, but purchased new version. How can I open old format file by using new version software?

The old format file won't be opened in new version, however, you can import tax return into the new version (Click menu: File > Import Previous Years). Then make some relevant changes, such as line 060, 061 in T2, copy data from previous columns into current columns on GIFI forms, etc. OR, open the old and new return files by the two versions, copy and paste data from the old version to new version.


32. Can I file Nil Return on the software?

Yes, you can. Just claim GIFI forms (Schedule 100/101) and don't need to claim Schedule 125 (Income Statement). Then finish page 1, 2, 3 and 9 of T2 form.


33. I have multiple years tax returns to file, which versions of software should I use?

1) Check year start and end of one tax return, go to Download, find out the corporation year start and end falling within the taxation period of a version, then you should choose this version for your tax return.
2) Repeat step 1 for the other year tax returns.


34. I have tried to install both PDFCreator and Cute PDF but while printing the message pops that "Failed to initialise printer". Please help to resolve.

Set PDF printer such as PDFCreator or Cute PDF as default printer in your Windows Control Panel.


35. Where are my tax return files?

First, you need to make sure your tax return has been saved before (.cor files is for CRA report only). Then open our software, your files will be shown in the file list on the first screen. The default path location is at My Documents\FutureTax folder. If files are not there, please search the tax return files(*.tYY or *.tYY2, YY is last two digits of the tax year) from all of your hard drives on your computer.


36. I cannot file my T2 taxes online, receiving error code 395. Please advise.

This error means your Email Address already on file. Please select line 088 as 'No' on the Corp Info worksheet.


37. My address has been changed with CRA. Why do I still get the error for line 010?

Since your address has been changed with CRA, you need to claim line 010 as NO, and don't claim line 011 - 018.


38. Does the newer release version 2021.1 update version 2019.2?

No, refer to Update for more details.


39. What's the .COR file?

The .COR file is created by clicking the Ready to File T2 button or under the Submit to Government menu. It is the report of your tax return and our software(version 2013.1 or higher) will submit it to CRA in the next step after .COR file is saved. If you don't want to submit .COR file in the software, you can submit it via your CRA business account or CRA website.


40. When I click Import/Carry Forward, no previous tax return appears

If you saved your tax return in the previous version, just locate the tax return file on your computer. The default location is under the sub-folders of My Doucments\FutureTax.


41. How to Auto-fill my current tax year return?

Auto-fill is to download your tax return data from CRA server if you didn't save a copy of your prior year tax return or it wasn't prepared by FutureTax. Click the menu "Tax Return > Auto-fill", and follow the instructions to select last year tax return to proceed (there is no current year selection). Save your tax return after Auto-fill is done. If you want to import it for current tax year return preparation, click the menu "File > Import/Carry Forward", locate the saved tax return and open it.


42. What do the colors of the field mean?

There are four colors (black, green, blue and purple) for a field in FutureTax. Black means the field is input manually; Green means the field is transferred from the other form, double click it to open the form; Blue means the field is calculated by the software; and Purple means the filed is default by the software, however it can be input manually if applicable.


43. If I submit a Business Consent "only" for a client, will this be considered to be using of License?

Yes, it requires license, however it shares with filing or printing - no extra license needed for submitting or printing the same tax return.


44. I need to file GST/HST for my corporation. Please advise where can I find the form on your system.

Our software doesn't include GST/HST filing form. You could file GST/HST in your CRA Business Account or via CRA website.
